e-MANcipate!
Sure the men-in-tights thing was all over the F/W '08 runway, but apparently its a movement. Thoughts?
A few things:
first of all, i love the flaming lips
so when i saw this on PITCHFORK.TV i knew i had to post it
they've been working on this movie for years and years
in their backyards and at home
it looks really out there
and kind of jarring
but i am pumped none-the-less to see it.
also, while i was on pitchfork.tv i found a few other gems

They keep your brains on the inside.
The bicycle has become the new bangle this summer, but with added hazards. The last thing you want it to be looking fabulous cruising down Franklin (the new bedford ave) and get hit by a drunken polski and have your dome splattered all over the street. Grab a helmet.. maybe something similar to this lacoste helmet.
I can understand if you haven't been wearing a helmet because of the lack in fashionable options but now you have no excuse. If you're working on a budget try to find a used horse riding helmet.

Vogue Italia's "All Black" Issue makes history.
And Vogue Italia is doing it’s first ever reprint with the All Black issue selling out on newsstands everywhere. Apparently it’s the first time Vogue has ever sold out. According to media sources:
Italian Vogue has taken the fashion and publishing world by storm by featuring all black models in its July issue. Historically, the conventional wisdom among “those who know” about circulation and newsstands in consumer publishing issues is that putting a black model or celebrity on the cover of a fashion magazine means that it “just won’t sell” well.
But after a couple of New York newsstand sell-outs, reports of frenzied, cross-town searches for $16 to $20 copies and the accompanying hype, Condé Nast has decided to reprint the issue — 10,000 copies emblazoned with the tagline “Most Wanted Issue Ever” and “First Reprint” banded across the front.”

Being a lover of both art and fashion I can't help but appreciate how these two worlds intersect. But at what point does it stop being a fabulous marriage and just a gross display of consumerism? First is was Louis Vuitton at the Brooklyn Museum, now its Chanel in Central Park, I'll be waiting with bated breath for Fendi at the Bronx Zoo.

NZ judge backs girl over 'embarrassing' name
(CNN) -- A New Zealand judge has made a 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name can be changed from Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii, the country's national news agency reported Thursday.
Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt listed a series of unusual names that New Zealand parents had given their children, and said he was concerned that such strange monikers would create hurdles for them as they grew up.
"It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap," the New Zealand Press Association quoted the judge as saying.
Among the names Murfitt cited: twins named Benson and Hedges -- after a brand of cigarettes; Violence; and Number 16 Bus Shelter.
Some parents had named children after six-cylinder Ford cars, the news agency reported. iReport.com: Do you have a unique name?
The Registrar General of Births, Deaths and Marriages said in a statement that it had rejected names including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Stallion, Twisty Poi -- a staple food in Polynesian cuisine -- and Sex Fruit.
A lawyer for Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii said the girl is so embarrassed by her name that friends know her as "K."
Last month, a judge in the U.S. state of Illinois allowed a school bus driver to legally change his first name to "In God" and his last name to "We Trust."
But an appeals court in the state of New Mexico ruled against a man -- named Variable -- who wanted to change his name to a two-word phrase that contains a four-letter expletive and expresses opposition to censorship.
